Viagra ® by Pfizer
Viagra ® was the first FDA approved pill released to the public back in 1998 specifically to treat erectile dysfunction otherwise know as impotence. Pfizer Pharmaceuticals is based in New York, NY and produces many of today's most well know prescription drugs including perhaps the best known drug Viagra. Viagra also known as Sildenafil Citrate enables many men with erectile dysfunction (ED) to respond to sexual stimulation, but keep in mind Viagra is not a hormone or an aphrodisiac, it works only when a man is sexually stimulated. Viagra does not directly cause penile erections, but affects the response to sexual stimulation. The drug acts by enhancing the smooth muscle relaxant effects of nitric oxide, a chemical that is normally released in response to sexual stimulation. This smooth muscle relaxation allows increased blood flow into certain areas of the penis leading to an erection. Viagra is taken orally as a once daily dose, one hour before sexual activity (unless your doctor say's otherwise) and comes in oral tablets in dosages of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. In most cases 50mg is all that is needed, but every man is different. If your doctor say's it's ok to use less then in order to save money it's best to try the lowest dosage that works for you and if a lower dose of Viagra works then obviously the more you'll be saving. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials included headache, flushing, and indigestion which occurred at a slightly higher rate in patients taking the drug than among those taking a placebo. Around 3 percent of patients on Viagra also reported changes in vision, principally altered color perception.
